THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM AND HOW MUSCLES ARE ATTACHED TO THE SKELETON

Muscular system; this is an organ system made up of the cardiac muscle the smooth muscle and the Skeletal muscle, they help in the movement of body parts and materials and also maintaining the body posture.

TYPES OF MUSCLES

There are three main types of muscles, these includes:

1. Cardiac muscle: this are muscles involved in an involuntary movement of pumping blood around the body. They are found in the heart only and takes very long to fatigue (get tied)

2. Smooth muscle: these help in an involuntary movement. They are found in internal body organs. The muscles ensures movement of food during digestion and urine in excretion and for internal body systems. These muscles takes long to fatigue.

3. The Skeletal muscle: these are responsible for voluntary movement. They found attached to the skeleton hence the name. The muscles fatigue easily.

ARRANGEMENT OF MUSCLES

Muscles are arranged in an antagonist pares to allow movement example, when the bicep contract to bend the forearm, the triceps relax on the other hand when the triceps contact to straighten the forearm the bicep relax. This same emprise to the circular and longitudinal muscles during the movement of food in the digestive tract.

HOW MUSCLES WORK

Muscles work by contraction through the nervous system.
During stimulus, an impulse from a receptor is carried by the sensory neuron to the brain and is sent back to the muscle tissues for actions. This involves tiny protein muscular parts of a sarcomere the basic functional contractile unit of muscle fibers called actin and myosin filaments. These tiny protein muscles slide over each other to allow tension.
During contraction, the thick filaments slide over the thin filament this cause the muscle to bend.
During relaxation, the thick filaments slide back to it’s normal position this cause the muscle to straighten and thus, causes movement. This requires energy from ATP.

IMPORTANT OF MUSCLES

Movement, Muscles play important role in the movement of entire body parts, food urine and other internal body systems.
Production of fluid, muscles facilitates in the secretion of fluids around the body.
