THE NERVOUS SYSTEM learn more about the chemical messengers that helps to make us aware from the environment

Nervous system is the network of cells called neurons that work together to transmit electrical impulses around the body.

Nervous system is very quick to respond to a stimulus.

TYPES OF NERVOUS SYSTEM

1. Central nervous system: it consist of the brain and the spinal cord.

2. Peripheral nervous system: consist of the peripheral nerve and Cranial nerve.

TYPES OF CELLS FOR NERVOUS SYSTEM

1. Conducting cells: these are cells that carry impulses around the body. Cells include sensory neuron, relay neuron, motor neurons and multipolar neuron.

The sensory neuron carries impulses from the receptor to the central nervous system or the brain.

The relay neuron carries impulses from the sensory neuron to the motor neuron, it also joins these two neurons sensory and motor neurons it is found in the central nervous system or spinal cord.

The motor neuron carry impulses from the brain or central nervous system to the muscle tissues or effector for action.

Multipolar neuron: found in the brain, it carries impulses to the brain.

2. Non Conducting cells: these are cells that protects the conducting cells, they cover and protect the neurons, acts as an insulator. They are more in number compared to conducting cells these cells include glial cells and supporting cells.

Nerves; these are signals in form of electrical being transported by neurons.

Reflex arc, this is the pathway of impulses from the receptor to the brain and to the effector for reflex action.

Reflex action, the network of cells called neurons to conduct electric impulses around the body.

When the sense organs detect the stimulus it converts it to an impulse in the sensory neuron and impulses reaches the synapse it get converted to a chemical called neurotransmitter, from the synapse then converted back to an impulse in the motor neuron.

FUNCTIONS:

The nervous system is a highly integrated system. The nervous system has three main functions these includes, sensory input, integration, and motor output.

At an integrative level, the primary function of the nervous system is to control and communicate information throughout the body as it is very quick to respond.

Conclusion, it is advisable to actually do some exercises at least twice a day
